Subject: First Purple Finch!
I have to admit I am a winter bird watcher. Nothing beats watching the
feeders so alive with birds while the leafless trees looks so dead. This
year, there seems to be more birds then last and I was so happy to see my
first purple finch today! The variety is amazing, dark eyed juncos, towhees,
Carolina wrens and chickadees, titmouse, fox sparrows (another first), downy
woodpeckers, house finch, male, mocking bird, blue jay, female and juvenile
cardinals, goldfinch, crows and even a red shouldered hawk. There are
probably some pine siskins mixed with the female house sparrows but I need
to work on IDing the difference. Interestingly, my suet feeder is out (might
want to not put out peanut butter suet with the salmonella in peanut butter)
and the downy was visiting the sunflower seed feeder.
