Subject: Sims Lake Park, Suwanee, Gwinnett 01/07/09
I took a nice walk (although I did get caught in a brief downpour) through
Sims Lake Park in Suwanee yesterday (01/07/09). It's a new park near North
Gwinnett HS and it has been pretty productive. It is the 3rd time I have
seen a Pileated WP and there is a small lake that draws interesting
waterfowl from time to time. There are several old crabapple trees that
draw an assortment of different birds as well. There are usually loads of
Eastern Bluebirds and assorted sparrows. Lots of Ruby Crowned Kinglets and
Pine Warblers. I saw 23 species on this walk, a Hermit Thrush being the
highlight. One thing I don't like is that is is almost impossible to bird
by ear because of the traffic noise from Suwanee Dam Rd.
