hello,

i am using sas to make a codebook for a study. i would like to create an index to reference which pages the variables are on. so, basically, i just need a word document with the names of the variables. i have unsuccessfully tried used proc contents to create such a file (along with ods) but have not had any luck. the file i create has extra blanks and formatting in it - which causes a problem when i try to use it to create the word index (INSERT ->INDEX AND TABLES -> select AUTOMARK -> open up file created by SAS).

if i manually create a word file just listing the variable names (one per line), i can successfully use this file to create the codebook index. the format of this manual word document is:

variable1<paragraph mark> variable2<paragraph mark>

so, how can i go about creating a file with the same format in sas?
