Subject:   (Future) Big Creek Greenway, Forsyth Co., 10/4/2008
Content-Type:   text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Hi, folks, I spent a couple of hours this morning walking the trail bed of an unfinished portion of the Big Creek Greenway in southern Forsyth Co. There are 3 phases of the multi-use trail system that are currently under construction in the county; I birded the section that borders the Polo Grounds off of Majors Rd., where Phases 2 & 3 meet. In the near future, the roughly 6 miles of the Forsyth Co./Big Creek Greenway will stretch from McFarland Rd. north to Bethelview Rd. Longer term Phases 4 and 5 will take the trail north for many more miles, almost to the Sawnee Mt. Preserve Visitors Center on Spot Rd.

A map of the planned Forsyth Co. Greenway System is available here: http://forsythco.org/pdf/files/BigCreekGreenway.pdf

Long term, the Forsyth Co. greenway will connect to the Alpharetta/Big Creek Greenway, which stretches a little over 6 miles from Webb Bridge Rd. south to Mansell Rd. This section has been completed for several years.

Information on the Alpharetta/Big Creek Greenway is available here: http://alpharetta.ga.us/index.php?p=136 .

Here are some of the species seen this morning:

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker: 1 Eastern Wood-Pewee: 1 Yellow-throated Vireo: 1 Philadelphia Vireo: 1 House Wren: 3 Wood Thrush: 1 Gray Catbird: 10

Warblers -------- Northern Parula: 1 Chestnut-sided: 3 Magnolia: 12 Black-throated Green: 2 Pine: 1 Black-and-white: 1 American: 1 Ovenbird: 2 Common Yellowthroat: 3 Hooded: 6 Yellow-breasted Chat: 2

Take care,
