Subject: NAB and GOS Summer 2008 Sightings, Final Request

Hello, Birders of Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

My name is Ken Blankenship, and I am the new South Atlantic Regional Editor for the American Birding Association's journal of ornithological record - North American Birds. I am taking over this role from Ricky Davis, who did an outstanding job of compiling and editing seasonal reports from all three states for 15 years. The mission of the journal is to provide a complete overview of the changing panorama of North America's birdlife, including outstanding records, range extensions and contractions, population dynamics, and changes in migration patterns or seasonal occurrence.

At the end of each season, I will be requesting reports of significant ornithological sightings from the South Atlantic Region. The sooner you can get your reports in, the better. Reports submitted should focus on important avian events and trends. These include, but are not limited to: a) species which have never been recorded or are considered to be rare, irruptive, or accidental in GA, NC, SC, or the region; b) species which are known to be in decline and/or are considered threatened in a state or in the region; c) species experiencing changes in their currently understood distribution and/or breeding range, such as unusual sightings relative to location and season, indications of nesting, etc. or; d) sightings which are significant for other reasons, such as high or low counts, early or late dates, unusual sightings in a particular region, weather-affected birds, etc.

Photographs are also welcome for consideration, and should be sent to me via email as well. Instead of .JPG format, the preferred file formats for photos are tiff files or .PSD (Photoshop-generated) files. Feel free to contact me about submitting photos, as other options aside from email are available.

Ricky Davis already made an initial request for Summer 2008 reports (June- July). At this time, I am making a FINAL REQUEST for birding reports for both the ABA journal (North American Birds), and the Georgia Ornithological Society journal (The Oriole).

Please email reports to me No Later than FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2008.

Thank you,

Ken Blankenship 3774 Tulip Tree Rd Marietta, GA 30066 http://www.wingsoverga.com kenhblankenship@comcast.net
