I've had dozens of encounters with gray rat snakes in
my yard over the years. They are the champion climbers
of the southeastern snakes. I'll bet we could write a book
from the rat snakes stories we could collect off of this
forum. I've lost more birds to snakes than all other
factors combined.
That said, and at risk of seeming like the bad guy, it
seems to me that capturing, transporting, and releasing
a wild animal into a state park is a Bad Idea. It is probably
even illegal.
What say you DNR folks?
