Carl,

My own reading is selective, but I always try to read at least the initial post in every thread, in order to ensure that I don't miss something because of a poorly chosen topic.

That said, I try to reserve an hour each day for reading SAS-L posts. The knowledge gained has saved my staff and me far more time than the hour spent reading the posts and, often, has provided the insight for developing new products and improving existing products and analyses.

And, I really don't know if there is a relationship between one's frequency of responding to posts and the likelihood of getting an answer when one posts a question, but I do respond quite frequently and ALWAYS get answers to any question I post.

Further, my first search in solving any SAS-related issue that I can't address given current knowledge, is to do a Google search of the list's previous posts.
