Hi,
When filtering, SPSS can filter cases or delete them.
In dialog box "Select cases" there is an option "Unselected cases are : filtered/deleted". When "filtered" is selected then filtered cases remain in dataset but are not used for any analysis. With Select cases / all cases you can "unfilter"such cases and they are used again.
When the option Deleted is used then the cases are deleted from datafile and cannot be used again.
With the syntax it is
SELECT if logical condition .= "cases are delete"
or
FILTER BY variable.
FILTER on. = "cases are filtered"
FILTER off. = cases are used again.
