Phil,

From my former life in central Texas (Austin) I can heartily recommend a day's journey to Fredricksburg and a stop at Enchanted Rock, a few miles to the north. Not sure if the wild-flowers will be at their peak at that time, or at all, but the chance to have a view of a "sea" of blue-bonnets is well-worth the price of a day's car rental for "photography".

Otherwise, the zoo to the north on Broadway is almost walkable, or should be within a bus line. Other places that direction to take pictures as well.

There are all sorts of old missions scattered around the city including the most famous one right at your doorstep.

And the riverwalk should hold your interest in "eating out", though not sure what other choices outside that area would even compete with them.

This is a bit OT, but here goes....

I'm going to be staying with my wife in San Antonio for the SGF, but arriving a few days before, and leaving a few days after, so I'm looking for lots of things to do in the local area on days when we're not involved in conference events. I'm not intending to hire a car, so "local" will mean within easy reach by public transport from the conference hotels.

My interests (apart from SAS!) are: * Beer (see www.hollandnumerics.com/phil.htm for a link to my beer list!) * Historical sites * Photography * Eating out My wife's interests are: * Historical sites * Line dancing * Shopping (for line dancing boots?) * Eating out

All suggestions will be considered, particularly if they can combine one or more interests from both lists!!

Thanks in advance..........Phil Holland -- -------------------------------------------------------- Holland Numerics Ltd Royston, Herts, UK email : <NEWS@hollandnumerics.com> URL : http://www.hollandnumerics.com/ --------------------------------------------------------
