The biggest problem with trying to stop a process in Windows is that it's so busy it's not listening to you.

Recent versions of SPSS create multiple sheets to hold more than 64K rows and the most recent version of Excel 2007 support over a million rows (but be very, very, patient with a spreadsheet this large).

Hi,

If your OS is Win, you can stop any frozen application with task manager : ctrl+shift+escape / or sometimes ctrl+alt+delete - and select "stop running program/process".

You wrote that you are saving 325 000 cases. Excell can store some 64 000 rows and 250 columns in a sheet. Does SPSS save the datafile into more than one sheet? Because if not then it is not possible to export such a big dataset to Excell.
