I, too, use this button all the time to make temporary adjustments to
programs for adhoc runs without risking the original. If you click the
X button and then the undo button, it clears the editor and then brings
the code back, but changes the default save filename to "Untitled2*".
That way I can edit the code without risking the original version.

Absolutely I use it on purpose on occasion.
If I have made a bunch of changes to code and discover I've made matters
worse I will use it so I can't accidentally overwrite the code later. I
also
use it when I need to bring in a larger program and want to just grab a
small bit of code. I copy it, then use the button so that I can't
accidentally overwrite the code.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a trap for the unwary. Does anybody use
it
on purpose?

I can think of no use for this button, especially being so close to
submit -
I've never used it. Just delete it from your profile - it won't be
missed!
