Our HR department understands only categories and salary ranges, so that's
what they are going to use. Given that, I want to be sure that the ones
they use
make as much sense as possible and are comparable with those of other
companies.

Wanda, I don't like degrees. Of course there are better and worst
programmers, but I think the most important thing is the adaptation to the
field you are working. If you are a good programmer, you are going to be
good in the pharma industry or in a bank.

Does anyone have (or know of) a system for classifying SAS programmers
by ability, for the purpose of assigning salary ranges? For example,
SAS Programmer I: xx-xx years of experience, basic data step
programming,
[other qualifications maybe]
SAS Programmer II: yy-yy years of experience, ...
SAS Programmer III: ...
Are SAS programmers usually combined with other types of programmers,
or are they usually categorized separately?
I'm particularly interested in the clinical/phamaceutical industry.
