Hello Paula (and other SAS-L Friends),
SAS is not going to officially support Vista until Release 9.2 (which by my
cynical calculation takes you out until sometime 2nd quarter of this
year). Why not take up some other worthwhile endeavors with your
discretionary time until you can gain official SAS support for your
potential folly?
There is the other potential bomb in your plans. Unlike the move from
(let's say) Windows 2000 to Windows XP, the move to Vista is going to
require significantly more computing horsepower. My understanding is that
this comes in a couple of flavors. A certain level of computer horsepower
is required for Vista to run in a limited fashion. A greater amount of
computer horsepower is required to use all of the potential nifty features
of Vista.
Unless you are a true computer masochist, why not let Uncle Bill and his
crew first test out Vista on others first and come up with a service pack
or two to address the bugs and security flaws that are bound to be
unearthed? Also, given the ever decreasing prices of computing hardware,
why not wait until you can get Vista pre-installed on a new computer from a
vendor with decent support? Then when screwy things happen, you have a
place to turn to for help (in addition to a MS newsgroup).
Prudent in PA,
Michael "Mad Doggy" Davis
