Subject: 11/10/2006: EL Huie: Common Goldeneye ?
Eric Boehm recently reported a Common Goldeneye at Huie without
any real details on sex or location. I was out running errands
so I went by there for a little while around 3pm. I did find a
bird in the ne pond that might be a female COGO, dark head and
a grayish body, white flash along the folded wing edges, nice
distinct 'golden' eye, and a touch of orange or yellow on the
end of the bill. Different size and shape than the Ring-necks.
I picked it out easily from all of the Hooded Mergansers, Coots,
and other usual ducks.
I'm not saying this bird is a COGO for sure, just asking for
someone else to go take a look-see at it, in the ne pond.
At home today, a small flock of Cedar Waxwings and my locally
resident Cooper's Hawk.
