There was considerable bird activity at Boat Ramp Rd. on Ft. Benning this morning. Unfortunately, most of this activity was limited to the tops of some very tall hardwoods. This fact combined with my very marginal fall warbler identification skills made for some frustrating moments and a bad case of "warbler neck". (I was by myself as my son Andrew was at home still sulking over UGA's loss to Vandy) Notwithstanding these factors, I still had some good birds the best of which were: Rose-Breasted Grosebeak Scarlet Tananger Magnolia Warbler (6) Common-Yellow Throat (3) Orange-Crowned Warbler American Redstart Black & White Warbler Indigo Bunting (6) Eastern Wood Pewee (2) Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher Swamp Sparrow (2) Wild Turkey (2) Downy Woopecker (6) Golden-Crowned Kinglet Ruby-Crowned Kinglet (12) At nearby Oxbow Meadows, I picked up a few more Yellowthroats, 6 Palm Warblers, an Osprey and a Yellow-Breasted Chat which I was happy to find during migration. Ted Theus (Columbus/Muscogee Co.)
