Sweave, Emacs.  But remember, I crafted the basics for that approach
back in '97.

Description of working practices isn't terribly useful; pragmatic work
requires that you figure out what you can do fast.  Some folks can't
do particular activities fast. In my experience, speed of a data
analysis workflow is impacted more by the individual than by the
workflow.
