Toggling MAIL/NOMAIL is the right way to turn off your subscription and
later resume *using the same address*.
To change addresses, you have to unsubscribe the old and subscribe the new.
These are independent (LISTSERV will not realize that both old and new
belong to the same person), so the two actions need not be coordinated or
sequenced in any particular way.
These things can be done via e-mail, but I find it convenient to register
and then use the web interface
