It isn't so much an upgrade, as it is adding a new version. In other
words, you can keep 8.2 and V9 on the same machine (assuming you have
enough HD space). Then you can run your program in V8 to make sure it
will still run OK when your boss returns.
I can't think of any disadvantages of installing V9. Just make sure
that you also install the current Hot Fixes and you should be OK.
