Mad Doggy,
I use it all the time. It is a really great feature for documenting the
source of the data and any segmentation that took place. A necessity
when you have multiple versions of files with only slight variations, or
when you import from files that have very long names (Excel, etc.).
Formal documentation may not be kept current or read, so having the info
attached to the data set is as close to idiot proofing the process as
you can get.
my $.02,
Gary

Subject: how do you use data set labels?
Hello Friends,
As many folks on SAS-L know, one can assign a text label of up to 256
characters to SAS data sets using a data set option or PROC DATASETS.
The label is visible in PROC CONTENTS output and in the SAS Explorer
window. My question is, "Do you regularly use the data set label
feature and if so, how?".
