The Abbey is in business. The entire inventory was purchased by Marty Beals, owner of Tideline in Inglewood,California. He was a close personal friend and associate of Bob Foster. The Abbey operates out of Tideline and is run by John Phillips. John does not send out lists very often but would be happy to show guests the inventory. Both Marty and John are close friends of mine. I saw the huge Pecten yessoensis supplied by Val Darkin just a month ago. You can phone Tideline at 310-641-9106. Email is
tideline@worldnet.att.net. A shell collector coming to Los Angeles should not miss visiting Tideline and The Abbey.

The Abbey is no longer in business, following the death of Bob Foster.

Hi Rick,
The large Russian scallops are most likely Patinopecten caurinus yessoensis. I have a friend, Val Darkin, who has a dive operation in Vladivostoc. He is a avid collector. He gets really nice huge specimens diving. Specimens are available from The Abbey in Los Angeles, California.

our local fish market was selling large scallop muscles (about 2X the Digby scallops), Russian deep sea scallops. Does anyone know what species this would be? and any info on the fishery?
