No, I'm from a little cow-town named Sacramento, but we hayseeds go to the big city now and then. ;)

I thought about posting my favorite SF cheap thrill, so I guess I will:

There's a ferry from the Embarcadero Center to Oakland's Jack London Square - it's $10 and a beautiful 1/2 hr ride under the Bay Bridge and up the Oakland estuary. At Jack London Square there's 1/2 dozen good eats. The ferry runs hourly or so - it's a fun evening, you see the bay and the bridge and some of Oakland and the SF city lights from the water - all for $20 plus dinner. The ferry is a 10-15 minute walk or so from the Moscone center. You can also take Bart under the bay one way or the other (it's nearly the same route) to save some money or go up the track some in SF.

Paul:

You must be from San Fran.

Thanks for the tips, you know the SUGI attendees will appreciate any and all pointers you can find time to post.

Thanks again.

Here's a great place just a few block away - very friendly and not too pricey - about $20 for dinner. Max's on the Square, 398 Geary St, 94102

There's plenty of sushi places around Union square, and of course Chinese in Chinatown.

This place has one of the best views - a revolving restaurant atop the Hyatt near the bay, great for drinks in the evening, about $50 for dinner. The Equinox at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, 5 Embarcadero Ctr, 94111

Across the city on the ocean cliffs near the golden Gate is the similarly priced Cliff House - Sutro's Restaurant, 1090 Point Lobos Ave. It's historic and has a great view for sunset diners.

Just going to the opening dinner.

Looking for some good meals in SF. Not sure if the location is all that great so I may need a taxi to get to the better locations. At SUGI30 I don't think the meals were a good value. Or maybe they just didn't taste good.

Any suggestions for good restaurants? Califorinia Cusine (last time I was in SF, I enjoyed Postrio), Japanese (exoctic sushi, sashimi, sake)?

I guess I should not bring cigars with the smoking ban in CA. But I did find some cigar friendly spots on the web (850 Montgomery, Murray's Cigar and Cognac Lounge in Canterbury Hotel, and Palomino Restaurant).
