Hi, Kapil!
Use
DISPLAY.
command. Enter "DISPLAY." to the syntax editor and run.
Or, if you need extended information, use
sysfile info FILE='X:\path-to-your-file\filename.sav'.
Many answers to the similar questions you could find at "A Guide to SPSS
Command Syntax" (probably you find it under the "Help" menu in the data
editor of SPSS).
Hope this helps.
Happy New Year to everybody!

Subject: simple syntax question
Hi all,
I am very new in SPSS syntax, and I am very excited at the opportunites it
provides! I have a very simple question. I have a data file open in SPSS
data editor. Now, can I write some syntax to get a list of variables in the
data file?
Thanks!
Kapil
