Subject: Columbus CBC R-H Woodpecker count clarification (Muscogee Co.)
Sorry for clogging everybody's inbox with posts, but I wanted to add a
note to my earlier post. It probably goes without saying, but the 13 RED-
HEADED WOODPECKERS that were observed on Tuesday at Lakebottom/Weracoba
Park could have been multiple sightings of the same birds. We walked
around the entire park and located the birds throughout the entire two-
block area; the birds were easy to spot because of their chattering.
We spotted three individual birds in one location, and two individuals at
several other spots, but it's impossible to say how many individuals there
actually are in the park. It is safe to say that there are multiple
juveniles and adult RED-HEADED in the area, and considering the bird's
relative scarcity, it is encouraging to be able to spot the species so
easily in the park.
The juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKER spotted on Oak Avenue between the
intersection of 21st Street and Garrard was a nice surprise too. As for
the mystery warbler in the park, I guess it will have to be the one that
got away.
