Subject: 11/09/2005: A few migrants in central Henry Cty
The yard has been very quiet lately, but late today I got brief
glimpses at a Golden-crowned Kinglet and the tailed end of our
first Yellow-rumped Warbler. They were with a swiftly moving
mixed flock that zipped through the trees out back. Got to see
the resident Belted Kingfisher take a dive, not sure if he
caught anything. There has been one Great Egret hanging out
here for a few weeks now, mainly staying out on the warped and
rotted old docks along the dam on the big lake. There are large
numbers of young fish all around any type of cover, and that bird
will stand in one spot for an hour or so and fish fish fish. I
see it several times a day, the brightest spot across the lake
against the rapidly browning background of fall(ing) foliage.
My comment on the diet of the Yellow-billed Cuckoo, is that I
recall from my youth that they were 'Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs':
