Subject: Hooded Mergansers in Henry

I stepped outside to see what the Blue Jays were screaming about but spotted two bright spots of white flashing way out on the big lake. This time it was not the back end of a bottom-grubbing goose, but two male and three female Hooded Mergansers. The males had their crests fully raised and all five birds seemed to be chasing each other around a bit. Perhaps there is some competition out there between the males on this invigorating fall day !!
