You can split the DE window both vertically and horizontally, and the vertical split scrolls in sync, so it provides a more flexible pin capability.
And in SPSS 14, since you can have multiple DE windows, you have even more flexible ways of looking at the data.

Subject: [SPSSX-L] Pin columns
Hello
I recently installed version 13. De data-editor now gives the opportunity to
split the window, which can be great at some times. But is there a way to
keep the left column(s) fixed? When correcting data I would like to have the
first column show the case id (or something like that) but when I search for
a cell in another column the case id disappears out of sight.
Thanks
