At 8:05 am EST this morning I saw the Henslow's Sparrow reported
yesterday by Al Mercer. (Thanks for the heads-up, Al.) It was in
that far corner of the field, in a big roundish clump of Goldenrod,
Wild Rose, Aster and Japanese Honeysuckle just in front of the big
reddish patches of dried Smartweed stems. It posed cooperatively for
30 seconds or more and appeared to be a picture-perfect specimen, as
if it had just flown out of the Sibley guide. The rufous color on
the wings was bright and easy to see. This was a life bird for me.
:D
Also seen were Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, Field Sparrow,
White-Throated Sparrow and Chipping Sparrow.
