You picked a good time to ask this. Mike Raithel gave a nice talk at SUGI 30 in Philadelphia, in which he discussed the %LOGPARSE macro and its brethren with which it works. I think this will do what you're after. Here's the URL:

The paper has instructions for downloading the macros and then using them.
