Back about nine months ago, some of us in the vicinities of SE Tennessee, NW
Georgia, NE Alabama and W North Carolina were getting a little tired of
having to "click" in each others' email addresses to generally "talk" local
birding and about what was showing up at feeders, etc. Some of the stuff
just wasn't GABO-appropriate, especially the chatter and out-of-state
topics.
What I came up with was a "SEFC-birding" email list through Yahoogroups.
"SEFC" stands for SouthEastern Four Corners", which was the shortest way
that I could figure out to express our common denominator - the junction of
our four states in a relatively small area. It has been a lot of fun and a
great place to discuss the sorts of daily sightings and migration trends
observed. Plus, it's a "one-stop" place to get information on birding in the
adjacent state since we often hop state lines to work & bird.
If you're interested in adding another bird list to your menu, just jump
over to http://www.yahoogroups.com. Once you've registered, put
"sefc-birding" into its search engine to sign up with us. It's certainly not
meant to be a substitute for the official GABO list, but it is fun.
Happy New Year,
Jim Greenway
