Ladies and Gents,
Spent the late afternoon birding at Arrowhead. The best of 34 species
identified was a northern harrier cruising over the 2nd and 3rd pond areas. This is
only the second time this year I've seen a harrier there (the other being on
November 17). My tally was pretty good considering the near complete absence
of waterfowl (I did see a great blue heron and a belted kingfisher). No ducks
today and not even a Canada goose. In fact, the only duck I've seen this
week was a mallard yesterday. The red-winged blackbirds and European starlings
have been oddly absent the past few weeks.
Sincerely,
Dan Roper
