Subject: Adding frequency variable

I have a variable in a dataset that shows the year and month of a study done. I want to add a new variable to every case that shows the number of records that have the same year and month.

For example, record 1 has year and month of Dec 98 in the variable of interest and of the hundreds of thousands of records, there are 1052 records total that have the value Dec 98, so the value of the new variable for record one would be 1052.

Is there any easy way to do this?
