I'm not sure that "shooting from the hip" (something I do fairly often)
is necessarily a bad thing. Giving the original poster a clue, without
an exact solution, is sometimes enough.
I don't think that "number of posts" has ever been taken as an
indicator of quality. It's just an interesting number. I've presented
the poster totals during the SAS-L BOF at SUGI the last few years; I've
never thought of it as an indicator of quality, and comments at the BOF
lead me to think that no one else does either.

I'm not at all sure why anyone would automagically assume that
frequency of posts should be an indicator of total quality
of posts by a sas-l participant. Is this some sort of
collective sas-l illusion (it's been going on for years?)?
If so, what is it's origin?
Has noone seen instances in which frequency of posts was
inversely related to the total quality of posts rendered by
a particular poster? Examples might be folks who "shoot from
the hip" and/or post untested/half-baked code.
I realize that "quality" can be difficult to quantify.
But aren't the reported frequencies attempting to quantify
the non-quantifiable?
On a scale of 0-100 (where 100 is 100%), to what extent is
"quality" even an issue with the various awards? Obviously
it is relevant, but to what extent? Think carefully now, and
consider all the possibilities ... <g>

A baker's dozen of people had multiple addresses
which I did my best to wedge into the same name
for this PROC Frequency.
My apologies if I have under-counted anyone.
Who remembers all of the MVS and HOF?
I will surely sit corrected by the end of the week.
