Subject: a "herd" of crows

Yesterday about 3:20 PM I observed a "herd" of crows, numbering 85-100, scattered in a hay field bordering the eastern side of Astondale Road about a mile south of Watkinsville in Oconee Co. (DeLorme 22, grid H-3). They appeared to be grazing, and were accompanied by a small flock of starlings. Interestingly, this is the same field where last spring Mark Freeman and I observed a flock of about 60 Sandhill Cranes feeding in the same manner. Carole Ludwig, Watkinsville, Ga.
