GABO-ers
Had a few errands to do in Decatur this morning, so I stopped by the SPCNP
from 0930 to 1000am. I heard a beautiful clear whistling song which was
unfamiliar to me. The pitch and quality of the notes was similar to that of Swainson's
Warbler. Two other birders there informed me they had seen Fox Sparrow. I
finally found the Fox Sparrow near the front of the property. I have seen the
Eastern (Red) Race more than once here in Atlanta but this was the first time one
sang for me. The Western race's song that I heard in California this year is
also very pretty but of a much different quality. It's worth a trip to SPCNP
for the chance to hear and see this handsome bird (or birds - there may be more
than one).
Cheers
