You hear about it in advance, people make decisions in advance, and you make
your programming changes in advance...

You report the collected data. There can be no dispute. Even if the data is
inconsistent then you report it as it stands. You do not plug the data or
change it.

They can insist all they like. At the end of the day you report on the
collected data. The data collected for a trial are the official record of
the trial, hence the regulations surrounding the collection of data and the
documentation of changes. Listings just list the data and tables just
tabulate that data.

Then chancks should have been in place to spot it or the Data Managers
should be more careful.

Put data checks in place...

Put data checks in place. Test for all these eventualities as soon as the
data comes in...

He should have made them walk the plank. But then HIS salary check wouldn't
have arrived.
Payroll systems evolve into a state of maximum confusion. I've worked on
one. The same should not be true for Clinical reporting.

8 years in clinical reporting using SAS after 11 years using SAS for
Capacity Planning and performance tuning including writing a chargeback
system after a number of years doing data conversion and before that working
for a payroll section. I've seen a broad spectrum of computing and the
longer I stay in the Clinical reporting field the more I think it should be
sorted out. I hope to be given that opportunity in the new year.
