Max,
Years ago (mid 80's?) I worked for a company where something similar
happened under VSE. One of the divisions in the company had a SAS
library with hundreds of datasets in it and it was accidentally deleted.
Our IT team immediately froze the pack (took it off line) that the SAS
library was on. They did an image backup to tape and the Institute was
able to recover virtually every member of that lib.
Granted, this wasn't spread across multiple volumes and I don't know
what we paid the Institute to recover the library, but it saved the jobs
of the division's head-honcho's.

I know it's a long shot - but is this possible???
Extra info:
We are running SAS versions 6.09 & 8.2 under TSO/MVS. The library in
question is a version 6, multi-volume dataset on DASD volumes that are
not backed up.
The space management guys on site have said it's not recoverable from
system backups and SAS Institute help desk (UK) have said no... but
I'm hopeful... :-)
Regards,
Max
