Without impugning anyone's beliefs, I'd like to report that my shell-related travels have further opened my eyes to the many human attempts to find deeper meaning to life. This great variety of beliefs and superstitions has made me even more skeptical. "Good luck" is a major concern in Asia and there are many superstitions including growing the nail on your pinkie. In Brazil I was amazed to find that the Catholic church condones a mixture with Santeria; Brazilian Protestants do not seem to be that accepting. The interior of Vanuatu is an eye-opener to our tribal origins and beliefs. Anyone for a rabbit's foot? I think that is a strictly American fetish.
