Casey,
I would note that the Solaris is a multiuser operating system,
so the load can vary considerably from one moment to the next.
You might try scheduling the MIXED model for nighttime
processing when the load should be less. 99 PATIDs is not
many at all. Any reasonable system should be able to handle
that number of levels for the random effect.
