Does anyone know the meaning of the terms "minorant" and "majorant"?

context: "Consider the n(n-1)/2 possible modal intervals and compute for each (xi, xj) the greatest convex minorant of the empirical distribution function Fn in (-infinity, xi) and the least concave majorant of Fn in (xj, infinity)"

Thanks in advance

Peter
