Thanks to Noel Wamer and Dave Hedeen for answering that riddle; Dave, who
has noticed the surprising dimorphism elsewhere, provides this quote from
Sibley (which I had not succeeded in laying my hands on earlier):
"Male of both species [including Sharp-tailed] is larger than female,
especially Pectoral, in which male averages 50 percent heavier and 10
percent longer-winged than female. Other measurements are less dimorphic,
so the size difference is much more obvious in flight than on the ground."
