To SAS-L --

I just installed the trial version of ZipMagic (4.0) on my Win2K PC ... but SAS v8 cannot read the zipped SAS files properly. (With ZipMagic, the zipping is supposed to be "transparent" to SAS or any other program.) I used WinZip to compress a SAS v8 dataset (just over 2 gigs in size) down to 176 megabytes, and then used ZipMagic to create a zip folder for it. Now, when I try to run a SAS program that reads in the SAS dataset, the SAS log says:

ERROR: An I/O error has occurred on file IN.SPARCS97.DATA.

Also, if I go into interactive SAS and try to look at the dataset in VIEWTABLE, it says:

ERROR: Expecting page 2, got page 3 instead. ERROR: Page validation error while reading TMP1.SPARCS97.DATA.

Any idea why this stuff might be happening? My understanding is that the ZIPPED file cannot be over 2 gigabytes, but it's fine if the uncompressed file is that large ... am I correct? Thanks!
