This week's announcements from International Student Life - Improving
Student Life.
Reminder: Please note that ALL international students MUST file tax
forms, even if you did not work in 2002 and arrived in the U.S. on or
before December 31, 2002 at 11:55 p.m. Additionally, if you have
received a W-2 from UGA or another institution DO NOT THROW IT AWAY!
Even if you have a tax treaty and do not have to pay taxes, you still
MUST file the appropriate forms!!! Call ISL at 706-542-5867 if you have
any questions about taxes and for information concerning how to get help
filing the IRS forms.

International Student Life events
1. UGA International students are invited to come to the General Tax
Workshops sponsored by International Student Life (ISL) to receive
assistance with filing tax forms for the 2002 tax year. ISL will
provide the appropriate tax forms. Students participating in any
portion of the ISL Tax Assistance Program should plan to bring the
following documents with them:
W-2s for the 2002 tax year
1042-S for the 2002 tax year (if applicable)
Passport and Visa
Calendar and exact dates in the U.S. for the past SIX years
Social Security Number or ITIN (individual tax ID number)
Previous year(s) form(s) if applicable
A calculator
The workshop schedule is as follows:
Workshop #2
Monday, March 3, 2003, 3:59 p.m., South P.J. Auditorium,
(Psychology/Journalism Complex). (All International Students).
Workshop #3
Sunday, March 30, 2003, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Memorial Hall Ballroom
(All international students, walk-in session).
Please plan to arrive on-time and bring all appropriate immigration and
tax documents with you. ISL will provide you with the necessary tax
forms during the session. (See list above for more information about
which documents to bring with you.)
2. Contact ISL for an individual tax appointment IF you are a UGA
international STUDENT. Email isltax@uga.edu to schedule your
appointment or call ISL at 542-5867 for more information.
3. UGA International Students AND J Scholars/Researchers:
File on-line from HOME or anywhere in the world via-NRA Ware (a tax
software program purchased for UGA usage by ISL and the Office of
International Affairs.) Pick up a form from the International Student
Life Office located at 210 Memorial Hall for instructions and passwords.
4. ISL is still accepting applications for Tax Volunteers for
international tax advising for the 2002 tax season. Become a Certified
Volunteer Tax Assistant for the tax year 2002. Contact the
International Student Life Office at 542-5867 or email us at
ugaisl@uga.edu if you are interested.
5. Come celebrate the Filipino-American Student Association. This
week's Campus Coffee Hour is sponsored by the Filipino American Student
Association. Come join us in the Memorial Hall Ballroom on Friday,
February 21, 2003 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and enjoy free food,
coffee, lemonade, and experience a wonderful social and cultural
experience!
6. It' exciting! The International Street Festival promotes cultural
diversity, awareness and tolerance among international and university
students, and the Athens community in a fun, festive, educational
environment. If you are interested in volunteering for the Street
Festival planning committee, please contact the ISL Office at 542-5867
or e-mail us at ugaisl@uga.edu.
7. CARIBSA Tea Talk, an intimate discussion of Bahamas and Trinidad,
Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. in the ISL Lounge located at

3. Central Asia and Change: A Symposium. Sponsored by the Center for
Humanities and Art. Panels of scholars, artists, and diplomats discuss
the effects of globalization on the cultures, economies, and politics of
Central Asia. Ambassadors' roundtable discussion on Thursday, February
20, 2003 at 9 AM features ambassadors to the United States from
Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and ambassadors to the United Nations from
Pakistan, Kazakhstan and the Islamic Conference. Through Friday,

4. February 22, 2003, 7:00 p.m. Join ICE for an evening of fun and
cultural enrichment with the Indian Cultural Exchange. Indian fashion
and dance will be on display in this exciting show! Tickets are on sale
at the Classic Center Box Office, 357-4444. Advance tickets are $10, at
the door will be $14.
