Birded SPCNP today from 12:00 to about 1:00. I was able to locate the
American Bittern w/o too much trouble. When I was there, the bird was
working the edge of the pond left of the observation tower past the magic
tree. I got a better view by walking down the boardwalk and standing on
the bench in the viewing area about 20 yards down the boardwalk. I was
able to watch the bird for about 10 minutes, and then moved on. I
recorded 33 species during my walk, including:
Fox Sparrow (3) - near the kiosk in some low scrub - great looks at these
birds
Song Sparrow (1)
White-throated Sparrow (+)
Pine Warbler - heard several singing
Mallard (6)
Red-tailed Hawk
Cedar Waxing - several large flocks
Hermit Thrush (2)
