Owen,

Great job on organizing the Floyd County CBC!  We had a great time on Sunday
and look forward to next years!  Just a couple of more random thoughts on
the area we covered.  The lack of winter finches (no Purple Finch or Pine
Siskins) was in line with the lack of these birds in our home area as well.
I scouted some for the Atlanta CBC (this sunday coming)  the past two days
and the number of finches (including American Goldfinch) was practically
zero. Simarily, there were very few Hermit Thushes, Golden-crowned Kinglets,
Brown Creeper (only 1 in our count area and it took all day to find it!),
Winter Wren and Fox Sparrows.   The two Orange-crowned Warblers we saw on
Sunday were the only ones on the count, which seems extremely low.  Not to
mention not a single Blue-headed Vireo (although we combed the woods trying
to find one)!  It's interesting that there were several Loggerhead Shrikes
on the Floyd Co count yet we can't find one in all of Cobb County anymore.
It seemed to me that the number of Cedar Waxwings were very low as well,
and I haven't seen any flocks in my Cobb County area yet this winter.
Hopefully, all the finches and winter residents will be around this Sunday
when we conduct our CBC!   I just got back from New York last weekend and
the lakes are mostly frozen over and there was atleast 6 inches of snow on
the ground.  Maybe those conditions will send some birds our way too!

On a seperate but related note,  the Tennessee Warbler that Deb reported two
weeks ago continues in our yard.  The bird has been feeding on the peanut
suet and grapes.  Hopefully it will stick around a few more days since our
yard is part of the count circle for the CBC.  We have also had 2 Fox
Sparrows in the yard this week.
