A quick trip to J.L.Lester WMA in Polk Co yesterday (2 Nov) to check for waterfowl and sparrows turned up none of the former and large numbers of the latter, but without a lot of diversity. Standing in one narrow mowed grassy strip, I did have 37 Eastern Meadowlarks foraging as dozens each of Song Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow, and Field Sparrow flitted in the surrounding shrubs and grasses, and a Northern Harrier worked the field behind. To complete the ambience, a pack of yapping beagles swept into hearing range periodically, then back out, then in again, then.....
