Jules,

In regards to AF not being in V9, I remember at the Futures Forum in Orlando this topic (future support) being an item of discussion. Basically, one of the presenters made the statement that AF would be part of V9 but there would not be any new features or enhancements made to the product. The only changes that were going to be made would be the ones necessary to get it to run on V9. They (SAS) and their customers have a lot of AF programs that are being used and they just couldn't drop it from the product mix.

Personally, and I know it's not going to happen, but I would love to see a tool that would convert as much of an AF/SCL program to Java as possible.

I am interested in looking at the future of SAS/AF and I am seeking comments from anyone in the forum who can shed some light on the subject.

By way of background, in this forum it seems SAS/AF queries are few and far between. (We had one his morning under the Subject: Scatter Control.) Is this an indication that there is very little AF work being accomplished. Or, are those doing the AF work so proficient with the product that they have no need to query here? I know that V8.2 AF can be complex so I doubt the latter is the case.

Further, in looking at DICE.COM, I see there are fourteen open positions across America requiring SAS/AF skills (and some could be duplicates). Again, could this be a valid indicator that the product is fading?

Finally, hearsay has it that AF will not be a part of V9.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

Jules Bosch
