I just wanted to toss in my $.02 now that I'm not all cheesed off by Charles Wentzel's "statistician" comments.

Charles, you have received several thoughtful discussions. I particularly liked Quentin's note. So now you realize the central problem:

NONE of this has anything to do with statistics!

This is all data presentation and business rules. There are no statistical considerations or theories anywhere in it. Simple means and sums are not real "statistics", no matter how pointy-haired your boss may be.

Convincing him/her/it of that fact is an exercise for the reader. :-)

David -- David Cassell, CSC Cassell.David@epa.gov Senior computing specialist mathematical statistician
