Subject: V8 Chart Control - drillling up from V6
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
In V6 I had developed a prototype drillable barchart (sans SAS/EIS)
using an AF Graphics Object. Now that I am converting this app to V8, I
would like to investigate using a chart control instead. I have
difficulty matching all the functionality:
1. The ability to show fewer bars on screen than the data contain.
I.e., I have a scroll bar object defined under the graph. If I scroll
back and forth with the bar, my program "scrolls" the graph to match.
2. Segmenting each bar. Each bar represents one quarter time period.
The underlying data are organized by month. I was able to show segments
on each bar representing the (up to) three months that contributed to
the quarter.
3. Region title. I was able to manipulate the Region Title to show the
range of quarters currently displayed on the graph.
4. Drill down. I have not prgressed far enough to know if it will be a
problem to handle a click on the bar the user wishes to drill into.
>From looking at the v8 docs, I may need to ask them to right-click to
drill.
My platform is AF. Am I going to have to live without some of these
capabilities? Is there a better way or tool (short of SAS/EIS)? Would
love to hear from you AF gurus!
TIA,
Rob
