To Mike and other interested folks interested in the clearcutting topic:
If you are interested in this topic I would certainly urge you to attend
the meeting. I think we will have lively discussion that will hopefully
engage people to think about these issues in new ways, not just the same
old two sided event of clearcuts being 'good' vs.'bad', I promise you
won't hear me say either. Without ruining the ending let me just say
that my study looked carefully at your concerns on cowbird issues as
well as reproductive success and did not find any problems with cowbirds
or elevated nest predation. The data is there to back it up. To put it
simply, the impacts of a clearcut on songbirds are largely dependent
upon the landscape context. Good and/or bad just don't cut it when
talking about these issues. I think it's going to be a fun evening.
Hope you can make it.
Nathan
