Well, it's spring break for many of us in education this week. And, while
I'm actually working much harder physically than I usually do, I get to see
what's happening in my own territory as I clean up the yard, deck, garage,
etc.
The Eastern Phoebes have just about completed their nest under
the deck in the same place they have built the past two
years.
Yesterday there were three (!) Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers sporting
about the yard. Once two of them seemed to be having
a discussion complete with posturing; I suppose it was
territorial.
Today a pair of Downy Woodpeckers performed what must have been
a courtship routine. One (she?) was on the trunk of the
while the other (he?) sat on a little short limb close to
the trunk and swayed back and forth and up and down. Very
sporty looking.
